Description
The breakdown of the protein fibrin, which plays a crucial role in plasma blood clotting, produces D-dimer. When blood clotting increases in the body, the concentration of D-dimer in the blood rises. The Cleartest D-Dimer is a rapid, reliable test for ruling out pulmonary embolism (PE), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). It should be noted that the diagnostic value of the test decreases as the patient’s age increases. To estimate the cut-off value, scientists have developed the formula “age in years × 10 micrograms per liter.” However, for values above 500 micrograms per liter, further diagnostic testing should always be performed.
